The Success Recipe – Ria’s 2014 Year in Review

Summarising a year in just a few words isn’t easy. So we’ve decided not to.

Instead, we’ve prepared a recap of the highlights and milestones which made 2014 such a great year for us. And we’re already looking forward to achieving bigger things in 2015.

In April, Ria won the backing of Walmart, the world’s biggest retailer, who chose us to power their Walmart-2-Walmart domestic money transfer service. In some cases we were able to save customers more than 50 percent. Which we think is pretty great.

That same month also saw us launch our new and improved online money transfer service www.riamoneytransfer.com for customers in the US to send money abroad. Our dedicated Digital Team created a product that was mobile friendly, lean and easy for customers to use. With more digital services on the way, this is just the beginning.

Over in Europe, May was the month we got scholarly and signed a five-year collaboration agreement with Regent’s University in London, United Kingdom. Our sponsorship of remittances research is led by Professor Ibrahim Sirkeci, the Director of the Regent’s Centre for Transnational Studies. He’s also known as the Ria Financial Professor.

In June we were honoured with not one but two awards at the Walmart Services Supplier Conference. We won the Price category award and also scooped the top prize for Supplier of the Year 2013-2014. What an honour!

August was all about Africa, when we signed an agreement with Postbank in Kenya to boost remittance flows and received praise of the Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya. He said the partnership would improve diversity and pricing, as some players in the money transfer market were currently enjoying too much dominance. Hear hear!

We also went social when Ria’s CEO, Juan Bianchi, and the team from our Global Headquarters in California took part in an awesome Ice Bucket Challenge to raise money for ALS. (Click the link to see a fantastic video!) Meanwhile in Spain, members from Ria’s European Headquarters made it on to National TV by running with the bulls in San Sebastian de los Reyes.

August proved to be a very busy month because in Latin America we also opened our first flagship store in Santiago, Chile. The modern two-level retail store has proved to be a success already. Bit by bit, we’re painting the world Orange.

September was the official birthday of Ria Italy, which turned 10 years old. Many of the same people who started with us are still there now. Viva Italia!

In 2014, we also grew our Global Correspondent Network and added thousands of locations. We inked deals all over the world, including TurkeyKosovoSri Lanka and Burundi where we continue to offer our low-cost services.

While there were many other highlights, we think the one’s we’ve mentioned tell the Ria story of 2014.  The story of a company who from a humble corner of the global financial system is helping millions of people every day to achieve a better quality of life. And we’ll continue to do that, always. 2015, here we come!
