Ria is one of the world’s most global companies, with a Transnationality Index (TNI) score of 71.3%. This calculation was authored by Professor Ibrahim Sirkeçi, Director of the Centre for Transnational Studies of Regent’s University London. The results were presented on July 20, 2013, at the Regent’s University premises during the launch of his book, Transnational Marketing and Transnational Consumers.

The TNI score responds to the definition and method developed by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. According to its lastest ranking Ria Financial is a slightly more global company than the British GlaxoSmithKline (68%) and just slightly less than Royal Dutch/Shell Group (71.8%).

Although Professor Sirkeçi analyzes many industries in the book, he devotes a special place for the money transfer sector, where Ria has become a leading player with its low-cost services proposition. Professor Sirkeçi explained that money transfer represents a “tightly controlled market with a strong, privileged leader”, where “regulation is key for competition”. Professor Sirkeçi also outlined that in this sector it is “difficult to enter in many countries”, which shines a light on the challenging conditions under which Ria achieved its current transnationality score.
